quickie...

Just a quick post with a few updates - I have a JILLION loads of laundry to do today... so I gotta get OFF of the computer...

Shanni was accepted to 4 UC schools for the Fall - UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz (her sister's Alma Mater) and UC Santa Barbara (where her Boyfriend will attend). After much agonizing, she's chosen UCLA (my Dad's alma mater!). Hooray for her - the smarty pants! Everyone should have such hard choices!

In addition, my friend and co-worker Mayra (also known as my 3rd child), graduated from Nursing School! She already had her degree in Psychology from UCLA, but wanted to be a nurse (working the grocery store wasn't appealing????)... she's moving to Mississippi to be near her folks and work there or in Louisiana. She will be missed. :-(

On Wednesday, I was told that Shanni won a scholarship through the CGA (Calif. Grocers Assn.)!!! Hooray for her - we are so excited (everyone at work was excited for us as well!).

Dennis' men's softball team won their championship - yay Guys!

Lindsay and Dennis' co-ed team is in the middle of playoffs. They won their first game and have another on Wednesday. If they win that, they play a 2nd game on Wed for the championship!!

I think Matt may be playing in playoffs with another team he plays on as well! Today Matt is playing BASEBALL (not softball) in the Valley - Denn and Linds went to watch (I have TOO much laundry)... because...

my nephews Michael and Andre arrive later this week. Their Dad was just here prior to a motorcycle club event in Ventura (it was nice seeing him). Michael is a recent college graduate - with a degree in Architecture from Arizona State (YAY Michael!)... Andre I believe is going on for more school and baseball in Arkansas or Nebraska (I can't recall)... he's been at a junior college in Nebraska.

On Saturday, Dennis races in another (2) motorcycle races at the fairgrounds. Hopefully, the boys will be here to watch. He got 2nd in his last race - hopefully, he'll do well this time, as well.

Although my family is apparently a bunch of overachievers - I have nothing to report for me. I am however, a Professional Laundress... so I have to go... more updates later (for like the ONE person that reads them anyway...thank you Kathy!).

Have a good weekend all...

weekends...

I am so glad that I'm not a farmer. Why? I don't want to work 6-7 days a week. I was SO tired by Friday night after many hours of work this week, that I literally fell asleep in front of the TV at like 9 pm - on a FRIDAY! What fun is that??? Saturday morning wasn't much better, after walking the dogs, I showered and went back to bed! I'm not a sleeper, so this is VERY unusual for me - I was just pooped!

Dog sitting for Maya this weekend. She is a bundle of energy, a pain in the rear, but SO cute and so affectionate. I could get past everything she does, if only she would sleep through the night and not hog my bed. Since Mags sleeps with us, Maya thinks she should too (but she's twice Mag's size!). Everytime anyone MOVES, she thinks she needs to get up and check out things in the backyard. This is probably just as much Maggie's fault. The RATS (yes, RATS) are out there and need to be stopped - no interlopers allowed in Maggie's world!

Then - there was the blatant ATTACK on Indiana, the shepherd across the street. Maya was out front off-leash (My fault - I didn't realize she was out with us). I see her spy something across the street - I run to fetch her, but was too late - she took off across the street at Indie - who was also off leash, but thankfully is a GOOD dog, and just STOOD THERE (instead of eating Maya for dinner). Maya's ridge on her back was standing STRAIGHT up and she turned into psycho-dog for just a minute until I got her. Then, she was in MAJOR doo-doo with her Grammi. Time out for completely unacceptable behavior. Who knew such a sweetheart could be so evil? Walked Mags by herself last evening. MORE training is definitely in order for the baby. Yikes.

I have Maya because Lindsay is in Seattle with her boy (he's working there), seeing the sights and having a great time. She is currently tormenting Maggie and trying to stay out of trouble with me. Lindsay and Matt have set the date for May 16th of next year! Looks like the big day is going to happen in Somis - at Hartley's (Hartley?) Botanica - an outdoor venue.

We attended their open house on Mother's day (yes, it was a stupid day for it!). Caterer had food... bakeries had samples... photographers, make-up artists, DJs, wedding planners, etc. were all in attendance. It was actually a little scary - way too many brides-to-be (think: bride-zilla), fiances, mothers, planners, etc. Looked to me like many just came for the food! (which was delicious). Some of the cake was actually HORRIBLE... I believe aliens have abducted my daughter though - she actually commented that my drink (some crappy raspberry champagne thing) MATCHED her colors! (Which she hasn't even formally decided on). GIVE ME A BREAK == and one of her colors may be PINK ! WHAT???????? PINK! LINDSAY??? Shannon agreed - it was official - her sister had been abducted and replaced with this ALIEN that neither of us recognized. Oy.

Dennis opted out of this outing (smart)... as did Kathi and Steve (too far - but also smart). Girls. I did pose the "can I wear jeans" question... I was shot down of course - with disgust. Then came the suggestion for Weight Watchers. Hmmm. Guess she doesn't want a plump mom in the photos, huh? Children. By the way, this is the child that showed up unannounced Mother's Day morning with Spudnuts donuts in hand! (yummy, by the way)

Shanni is still deciding on which school to attend in the fall. The smarty-pants got into all of the ones she applied (UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Santa Barbara). This decision is ALL hers... she has until June 1st to decide.

Ok - this is long enough - gotta run - Dennis is golfing - I'm enjoying the morning by myself far too much - dogs are outside begging to get in, and I need a shower (our walk was again a pain this morning).

all grown up!

Ok - my attempt at an update (not that anyone is reading anyway)...
My babies are growing up - Shannon will be TWENTY next week... in college and doing great... independent and smart. Lindsay is engaged (to Matt - who is off in Washington for another month working) and 26. We are looking at wedding sites, wedding dresses, wedding everything... who would have thunk? Perhaps I can wake up 1/2 my size tomorrow, so I can look like a "hot" mama on wedding day? Oh well... I'll be a plump mama instead... I totally dread the whole dress thing. I'm thinking Jeans and Crocs may be deemed unacceptable by my picky darling daughter! :0) What do you think?

Lindsay is managing a co-ed softball team on Wednesday nights. She does a great job with a great bunch of people! Dennis has been sub-ing while Matt is out of town, and he is LOVING it. Two nights of softball in a row each week is a little crazy, but he absolutely loves playing on both teams. The Tuesday night team is a men's team, with many of my co-workers from Gelson's on it. They are doing too well (5-1) - and just got moved up a division, which means future games may be a bit more challenging! The unfortunate part about moving up, is they again changed our park - it was the newly remodeled and fabulous park in Simi on Royal and Erringer - now we are back to schlepping CLEAR across Simi to Rancho Susana Park by the railroad station. By the way, I should also mention that the co-ed team in Newbury Park also doing FANTASTIC and is undefeated! Yay Lindsayloo (and Dennis)!

In other news, Dennis is riding in a flat track motorcycle race tonight in Ventura - on his brother Pat's bike. Yikes - if you pass a church, say a prayer. They just left for a day of "fun". I'll go around 5-ish and begin the evening of freezing. I'm taking my camera and new lens, so HOPEFULLY, I'll get a decent shot or two. My photos SUCKED from Pat's last race in September (not enough light), but now that Daylight Savings has begun (ended?), it should be better. Here's a photo from Pat's race last year in the spring or summer. I think he came in 5th or 6th (bad sister-in-law for not remembering - do I get points for going both times though?).

Pat's the one in the Red (66). Dennis is racing in just one class (no clue what that class is, sorry), but it will involve several "heats", I believe. I think he was pretty excited - I know PAT was! I'm smiling just thinking of them getting all of their stuff (toys?) together today for their outing. ANOTHER trip to the Motorcycle shop was in the cards as well!

Not much other news... I'm making some jewelry for a gift for next week - Steve, Kathy, Dennis, Linds and I are driving up to S. Barbara to celebrate Shanni's birthday - we're going on Tuesday (her b-day is Wednesday). Kathy's birthday was yesterday, and she wants a red bracelet. Of course I have almost NO red beads - so I'm off to the bead store to do some damage. Made something last night that turned out fugly, so back to the drawing board. Looks like something a dancer in a brothel would wear... so, I'll cut and chop and redo it, and start a totally different one for Kathy. I've been lazy with jewelry lately, but was inspired this week to make a pair of earrings for my friend Rene' for her birthday - she needed some to match a necklace that I've previously made for her. Stupid me - I don't think I took photos of either one!

That's it for now... I've got a ton of things to do today now that I FINALLY have the house to myself (which of course makes me WANT to do nothing, other than enjoy the silence [no TV!]).
Have a great weekend - it is supposed to be in the 80's here today!

blogalot? uh...no..

I just can't get it together to write a blog that seems in anyway interesting to anyone but me... give me some time, I'll get it together soon enough... until then, check out the blogs I have links to... they are most interesting (family and friends). Tough acts to follow...
